Mustang Seniors attend Butler County Government Day 2023

Butler County Government Day was hosted on November 7th, 2022 by the American Legion Butler County Council Posts.  The senior class along with Mr. Casteel attended Butler County Government Day.  Upon arriving at the historic Butler County Courthouse, the seniors toured the various offices that our local municipal and county governments offer to residents of Butler County.  The seniors heard from the Butler County GIS/Mapping Department, Emergency Management Services, and Public Works Department.  The seniors even had the opportunity to meet with the Butler County Commissioners including former Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet, now Commissioner from District 3, and Rosalia’s District 4 Commissioner Darren Jackson.  After the courthouse tour the students crossed the street to the Butler County Judicial Center where they met with County Attorney Darrin Devinney and actually sat in the jurors box and tables for both the prosecution and defense lawyers in Courtroom B.

The American Legion then provided lunch to all students in attendance.  Lunch included a presentation on flag etiquette and a ceremonial flag folding.  The flag folding ceremony described in detail why the flag is folded 13 times when given to the family of a fallen hero.  After lunch, the seniors toured the Butler County Detention Center and were able to interact with Butler County EMS, the Sheriff’s Office, the Rescue Squad, and the El Dorado Fire Department.  Each department brought vehicles and equipment for the students to see and tour.
