Flint Hills USD 492 Superintendent Completes Statewide Leadership for Tomorrow Program

Jeremy Boldra, Flint Hills USD 492 superintendent, recently completed participation in the Leadership for Tomorrow Class of 2016-2017, sponsored by the Kansas Association of School Boards. Boldra was one of 33 board of education members and school superintendents/administrators recognized in Topeka Jan. 11, 2017.
KASB’s Leadership for Tomorrow program identifies exemplary board of education members, school superintendents and administrators from across Kansas for the year-long leadership program. Those selected for the program participate in five two-day sessions centering on student achievement, key education issues and leadership skills. The sessions included the following:
• May 2016: Session I included visits to McPherson USD 418 and Smoky Valley USD 400. The group also spent time exploring leadership change theories, how they translate to today’s education environment and how competing values impact the role of group leaders.
• July 2016: Session II was held in Southwest Kansas, visiting Dodge City USD 443 and Montezuma USD 371. The group also participated in crisis communication training led by KASB staff.
• September 2016: Session III included a visit to Kansas City, Kansas USD 500 to hear about the district’s initiatives. The class also spent time visiting an early childhood center and a middle school. KASB staff led the group in discussion on the state’s Kansans Can vision and effective communication strategies.
• December 2016: Session IV was held in conjunction with the KASB Annual Conference. The group met for a half-day to explore the state’s new accreditation system and using data to make decisions on how to use resources at the local level. Class members then joined KASB Annual Conference early bird sessions on Friday.
• January 2017: Session V included a visit to Seaman USD 345 and an evening dinner and graduation ceremony. Class members then joined the KASB and USA Kansas Advocacy in Action conference the next two days.
The 2016-2017 Leadership for Tomorrow class is the twelfth class to graduate from the KASB program. One hundred and ninety-seven board members and administrators have completed the program.
KASB, headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, serves governing boards and administrators of unified school district boards, community college boards of trustees, area vocational-technical college boards and boards of cooperatives, interlocals and regional service centers. Currently the association represents 285 school districts and 42 interlocals, cooperatives, service centers, community colleges and technical colleges.
